Age is highly respected in the indigenous communities I’ve visited. The more years, the more lines, the more wisdom, the more respect. This custom is contrary to our modern world. Here, a lot of attention goes to a superficial, aesthetic layer that is prone to change as time goes by. Humans are made of layers. That is what makes them so fascinating. That is why I support the message of this book and the people behind it. Sevilay Maria feels like a kindred spirit. I recognize her fascination with other human beings, that enables her to connect on a deeper level. The beauty she reveals is likewise multi-layered. It is composed of pride, elegance, dignity, self-confidence and respect.

Agisme, het discrimineren op basis van leeftijd, moet stoppen. Daarom omarm ik hartstochtelijk het PR:OUD-initiatief van Micaela Bartels en Sevilay Maria van Dorst voor dit boek. Bij de schitterende portretten staat geen leeftijd vermeld. IJzersterk. Als je naar de foto’s kijkt en de interviews leest, kun je ook maar één conclusie trekken: leeftijd is niets anders dan tijd van leven. Iets om trots op te zijn.
